Paper box types for retail and shipping
A printed retail pack, a parcel and a cosmetics gift set need different structures. The format sets the board, opening and space around the product.
Folding cartons
Folding carton packaging uses paperboard for a retail item. The flat blank folds into the finished carton. ZHY’s white-card range is 200–450 gsm; coated art paper reaches about 375 gsm. Mailer boxes
Custom mailing boxes use fluted board for parcel packing. Product size, weight and the sales route guide the format. ZHY’s kraft-board range is 250–450 gsm, with E-flute about 1.5 mm, B about 3 mm and EB about 4.5 mm. Explore mailer boxes.
Rigid boxes
A fixed rigid box suits gift sets and premium presentation. Its greyboard shell holds the shape, while the wrap gives the visible finish.
ZHY’s greyboard range is 1.0–3.0 mm; wraps use 128–157 gsm coated art or specialty paper. The lid and inside space are sized around the packed items. Explore rigid boxes.

Inserts with the packaging order
For a retail set with several items, ZHY can supply a fitted insert with the packaging order. The product dimensions and layout guide the insert and outer box together.
The opening and inside space
The inside size is set around the product and any insert. A folding carton closes with a straight tuck, reverse tuck or auto-lock bottom; a mailer closes with a lid, and a rigid box can be made as a lid-and-base, book-style, drawer or magnetic hinged-lid box.

What is the difference between cardboard and paper boxes?
“Cardboard” usually means one of two boards: fluted corrugated board for mailers and shipping boxes, or paperboard for printed retail cartons. Folding cartons use paperboard, mailers use fluted corrugated board, and rigid boxes use wrapped greyboard.
How much does a custom box cost?
Each order is quoted individually. Quantity sets the price most, followed by paper, printing and finishing, then structure and size. Samples are USD 4–20 each, and tooling and plate charges apply when the structure or artwork needs them.
